1. What you're giving us permission to do
You keep ownership of the original work you create. When you submit, you give the operator of We Remain Human a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to review, edit for clarity or length, adapt, caption, translate, narrate, reproduce, distribute, promote, and publish your submission, in whole or in part, across the We Remain Human website, written stories, social channels, video channels, podcasts, newsletters, and related promotion. We may decide not to publish a submission. We will work to preserve the meaning of your story and respect the privacy choices you select.
2. Money, sponsorships, and advertising
Some stories may appear in monetized videos, podcasts, blogs, newsletters, sponsored programming, advertisements, or other content that generates revenue. Unless we make a separate written arrangement with you, you are not paid for submitting your story or for the permitted uses of it. We will not imply you endorse a sponsor or product simply because your story appears near advertising.
3. AI-assisted production
We may use AI-assisted narration, generated or illustrated visuals, transcription, captioning, or editing to present a story. These are representations, not necessarily recordings of the actual person. We will not use your submissions to train AI models or authorize our production providers to do so.
4. Privacy choices and other people
You may choose to appear openly, use a first name, use a story name, or submit anonymously. We will follow the preferences you select where reasonably possible, but no edit can guarantee complete anonymity. Your voice, surroundings, personal details, or the experiences you describe may still identify you or someone else. We may remove names and other identifying details about third parties. Do not upload another person's private recording or protected material without the permission or other legal right required to share it.
5. How long permission lasts and how to ask for removal
Your publication permission continues until you withdraw it by sending a valid removal request through our designated privacy/contact process. After we can reasonably verify that the request relates to your submission, we will stop new publication and aim to remove the story from websites and social channels we control within 15 business days. We cannot recall copies already downloaded, quoted, captured, cached, or reposted by others, and third-party platforms may take additional time to update their systems. Removal does not undo past uses that were authorized before withdrawal or legally required recordkeeping. For anonymous contributions, please keep your private reference number so you can identify the submission in a future request.
6. Who handles original files and how long we keep them
Original submissions and optional private contact details will be accessible only to the operator and authorized reviewers/editors or service providers who need them for processing; they are not publicly searchable. We delete unused original videos/audio and unpublished story files within 90 days after a decision not to publish, and delete original video/audio within 30 days after the final published edit is approved, unless you separately agree to longer retention. Public edited versions are kept while your publication permission remains active. Following a verified removal request, we aim to delete remaining submission copies under our control within 30 days, except for limited records required by law, disputes, or security. Service providers may retain limited copies under their own retention policies. We cannot promise a fixed deletion date for backups we do not control.
7. Safety concerns and urgent disclosures
We Remain Human is not an emergency service and cannot monitor or respond to every submission in real time. If a submission appears to describe an immediate, credible danger to someone, abuse or exploitation of a child, or a serious plan to hurt oneself or others, we may disclose limited relevant information to emergency services, law enforcement, or child-protection authorities when required by law or when we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect someone from serious imminent harm. We may be unable to identify or contact you if you submit anonymously. We cannot promise absolute confidentiality.
8. Contact information and email subscriptions
Your contact name, contact method, and contact details are optional unless you ask us to follow up, in which case we need a working way to reach you. Public story names and private contact names are stored separately. We do not automatically subscribe contributors to marketing emails. Newsletter signup requires its own optional consent.
9. Questions, privacy and removal requests
